Shift in the Collective Consciousness
Do you still listen to the radio? I almost never do, but for some reason, I tuned in yesterday morning. And I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. They were talking about death!
It was not the usual depressing news about someone shooting another. It was a meaningful discussion about how to live your life as if you are dying. They talked about how, in a way, we are all “terminally ill”. They mentioned living your life to the fullest and why it’s OK to move away from people and things that prevents you from doing so. There was a debate about whether spending time alone was really “sad” if you truly enjoy doing certain things alone. And from what I can infer, this was not the first show that they discussed these topics.
I was not expecting to hear this from a morning show that mostly discusses celebrity gossip and makes prank calls. And I got really excited! With all the terrible news you hear each day, it’s easy to believe that the world is going down the drain. But moments like this shows me that the collective consciousness is shifting beneath it all. A large number of us has had at least one event that shook us to our core in the past 10 years or so. We are ready for deeper discussions. We are ready to have a more honest look at ourselves. And these swells are finally breaking the surface!
If you are here reading this, then you are probably one of these people. I’m really excited to share my thoughts with you so that we can exchange our opinions and change our consciousness together. As we do so, however, I would like for us to keep in mind that we are no better or no worse than anyone else. Past, present, or future. We’re just different, and it’s OK to be different.
With the Black Lives Matter movement, for example, I noticed some people judging our founding fathers with today’s measuring sticks. I think that’s a slippery slope. Imagine a future society in which everyone chooses to be gender-neutral. Maybe everyone uses the word “they”. “He” and “she” might have become derogatory terms. We’re just in the beginning stages of really thinking about this topic, but most of us have already noticed the disparity in gender roles. We all know something doesn’t quite feel right. Now, would you want that to be taken as a green light to judge you in the future?
When you look back at history, it’s amazing how much our collective consciousness have already grown. But from the perspective of future generations, we’re also still down right primitive. Criticizing people that you have zero influence over doesn’t serve anyone except your ego.
Remember, the only person you have the authority to change is yourself. You can give the greatest advice ever, but it’s completely up to the other person whether to take it or not. If that’s the case, might as well use your time efficiently and work on healing yourself!
